I've used BlueFin Charters out of Quepos and was pleased. What time of the year are you going, and what do you want to catch?

if it's a good charter, all you have to do is hold on and reel without throwing up in the boat.

sometimes harder than it sounds.

I've always went out of the marina at Los Suenos. There should be several options based on your party's size.

Jan - March is marlin time, but I've never been at that time unfortunately. During the summer, we've had moderate success with sailfish, wahoo, etc.

You can ask whomever is providing your accomodations for suggestions. I've chartered and also been on privately owned. You're pretty much guaranteed to enjoy it, and it won't set you back too bad.

Hooked on Costa Rica

It was about 5 year ago, the guys name is cpt josh he is American from fla he took excellent care of us. Any he was able to provide anything we asked for.

We caught 4 sail fish.

The rooster fishing inshore is awesome so that maybe an option if you don't have all day or want to keep the cost down

Fished with these guys out of Manuel Antonio a couple years ago and had an absolute blast. Caught an absolutely huge sailfish......crew was very professional and fished their behinds off. Whatever you do I would avoid booking through a hotel/resort as they seem to hook folks up with "tour guides" rather than guys who want to work hard to catch fish.

Fished with John Schuchert sp? out of Quepos. He is a Louisiana native, from Slidell. He's very knowledgable and will do everything he can to put you on the fish. www.queposfishadventure.com

Caught 27 sails in two days, ended day two with a quad hookup and landed every one! I was on the bite and another group was on the spanish fly, both boats did outstanding!!

My fellow Belleau Woodsman, what areas will you be visiting?
This info will aid me in making recommendations...not only for fishing, but for other activities as well.
Pura Vida!

ETA: Belay my last, I just read the thread and saw you are traveling with the wife. Perhaps you will have a good time on your second trip to Costa Rica.

Seems like the places to go are Quepos and Los Suenos. My dad and I did a 2 day trip with GoFish Costa Rica in Tamarindo a few years ago and had a blast. A ton of sails, a few huge Mahi, and a ~350# blue marlin our first evening. Like someone mentioned, we went in February which is when the weather is ideal for catching a bunch of the different pelagic species. Good luck and keep us updated.

Bumped for pics and a report from Skeeter because I will soon be making my annual pilgrimage.
Also, happy belated 238th!
