I have an older Remington Magnum Wingmaster model 870, 12 gauge with a 3" chamber, and 29" barrel. I was curious as to how much I could sell it for and from what I've seen online the prices are all over the place. It's fairly used and has a few dings in the wood but overall is in pretty good shape. I've seen similar condition/quality ones being sold for over $600 and some for as low as $200. Am I missing something here or do people just throw out numbers?

The more expensive ones are probably Wingmasters. It's a higher grade 870 with nicer finishes.

post an ad on a message board full of hunters where selling things isn't allowed, but form it in a question so it won't get whacked.

Wait and bump this thread tonight. Lots of people are either at work or busy trying to make excuses to leave work for the game.

Most probably throw out numbers. Can probably find one of those valuation guides at a bookstore and get a good idea of what it might be worth and what it might go for.

I'll go $101.

Eta: Sight unseen, I'd estimate it to be in $300 range. I come across quite a few used ones in pawn shops.

If I wanted to advertise I would go over to LA sportsmen and ask there. This board gets more traffic and has some good people on it. I do appreciate your contribution to the thread though and wanted to make sure you keep up the good work.

no offense but its not like you have a rare or highly in demand shotgun there...just list it on LA sportsman, or armslist, or gunbroker

its a $300- 500 shotgun depending on if you find someone who really wants it

None taken at all, I know it's a pretty standard shotgun. I was just curious as to if there was an actual reason some of the almost identical guns had a $400 resale differential.

people buy things all the time for more than their market value. its all about whether the seller finds the right buyer

looking for the correct "range" for a low-dollar item like that is likely fruitless. i'd list it for whatever you think is fair, $3-400 seems reasonable for a used 870. i know i wouldnt pay more than that for one no matter the condition

Very nicely done.

eta: you should probably post your email address in case people aren't comfortable giving certain advice on a board for all to see. Some of these OB like to keep their secrets just that.

I'm a vet in the game mayne. If I had a Gmail address it would likely be my username with no spaces and the numbers forty five on the end. That's probably already taken though

$600 for a used Wingmaster without the Rem-choke is high for anything other than a MINT gun with some special significance. A used 3" wingmaster with a fixed choke barrel is worth no more than $300 from what I've seen. I would list at $350 and go from there.

The difference is due to seller ignorance or indifference.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line"!
