I can. An LSU grad is up there guiding. He is one of my best friends and a phenomenal fisherman.

Starr Corcoran: LINK

Went last year to hang out and fish with him.

ETA: Out of Bozeman/BigSky area

I have been to Yellowstone 3 times and all the fishing was catch and release in the park. Now I did hear that you can keep lake trout caught in the lake since they consider them an invasive species. If so great. I saw a guy pull one of those bad boys in last time I was ther and it had to go at least 10 lbs. I have no idea if they are good to eat or not. Now I think I will check it out with the park service. I got the envies to go up there and leave my phone at home.

Thanks, I'll check him out. Thier place is a little further west than I was planning to run but I'll touch base and go from there.

Guess I got to buy a fly setup now.

He will come into the park or do whatever you want. What area were you panning on going? I would suggest Big Sky. Just driving around up there is awesome.

If you're going to be with a guide they will usually provide rod/reel.

Ehh, this is a tricky situation. If you just want something to practice with you can just go and buy a super cheap combo one from Dick's to sort of understand how the mechanics of the casting works. Keep in mind that the cheap rod will feel different than what they will likely provide but at least you'll have an idea of what it takes to cast.

Youtube videos - watch them for hours. There are endless, high quality casting instruction videos. I think the orvis website has pretty good ones too.

EDIT: if you do practice, do not start out tossing 400 feet of line like you're Brad Pitt on the Blackfoot River. Keep it to short casts with subtle presentation. Also learn what mending is and how to do it.
