Any Snapper Reports

Yes, there are more than anyone can remember there ever were. The season is about done. You can't have any.
Meanwhile, they are the special on every menu of every fricking restaurant from Seattle to Miami.

Ps....everyone is limiting with huge sows on every trip! frick the government. They want to control all food sources on the planet

I found this on THT
quote:

I was boarded and USCG and MS completed a report and I was able to keep fish and month and half later recieved a citation in mail. There was a Grid sheet enclosed: 1-10 fish $250 + $25 per fish, 11-20 fish $500 + $25 per fish, 21-50 fish $750 + $25 per fish. I spoke to an attorney and with his fees it was cheaper to pay it. Did not know if this will help you any?

I haven't a clue. What else is biting out there this time of year?

Just about everything. Mangroves but that is kind of technique specific. You will probably catch some trigger fish, maybe a small grouper, could luck into a cobia, kingfish, other snappers, etc... Hell we caught a 25# blackfin in 250' of water on a dead cigar minnow on the bottom one time while trying to finish off our red snapper limit. You never know what your by-catch will be.

NMFS/USCG doesn't write tickets to people with redfish inside state boundaries even though they are not allowed to be kept in federal waters...

They sure as heck don't have a problem dropping paper on boaters on the Tickfaw. And as someone mentioned, it really is all about who stops you. And they are on the LSP level of arrogance, so good luck getting a friendly visit. Just isn't worth it to me.

And to the observation about it being on the menu, fresh snapper was the special at Ruffino's the other night-at $39.50 a plate. I think their dry aged steaks are cheaper.

Went today out of Orange Beach. Hit some reef maker pyramids we put out in 2006, had only been fished 4-5 times. They are both in 125' of water and are 23-26 NM offshore. Could have limited out on the first spot and did on the 2nd; we took 6 off of each. All the fish were 8-15#s. Very nice grade of fish and IMO the perfect size for eating. Had a bunch of undersized AJ's at one the spots- one has a FAD attached to the top of the pyramid... Hit another spot out about 30 NM and caught a really nice trigger; that was in 136' and we couldn't get to the bottom to see if there we any grouper; due to the snapper's aggressive nature. We left the marina around 7am, hit the rocks for some live bait and were finished with our snapper limit by 10:45. We were back and cleaned up by 3. Nice day on the water!!!!
