Nothing like catching them in mid January on the bottom in 50 ft of water one cast and then catching one on topwater two casts later! :)

I can usually catch a few of them in Toledo in the winter in deep water.

I went fishing for them twice in Chesapeake Bay.
Trolled for 4 to 5 hours and caught 3 fish each time.
They were decent sized, but you couldn't keep any, as in 0.
ETA: They steam their blue crabs and shrimp.

Spots do fight thats for sure. We catch quite a few when we go to Sam Rayburn.

From what I hear, the spots in Toledo and Rayburn stay somewhat small. Probably the heat and the lack of deep structure..
Our claim to fame is our big spots... Lanier, Hartwell and most of the Bama lakes have giant spots in them... 4-7 pounds...
They are a great fish to fish for... Love catching them deep but right now, they are on the move shallow

The biggest spots in LA come from shallow, sandy and gravelly rivers on the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. The state record isn't even 5 pounds, but some 3-5's swim in the Tangipahoa, Tickfaw, Tchefuncte Rivers in the Florida parishes. The most effective way to target them is a float trip in a yak or bateau.

Yeah biggest has been about 1.5 - 2 lbs. But where you catch one you can sit there and catch 50 alot of times.
Make good fillets for frying thats for sure.

This is south Louisiana man, our lakes are 4 feet deep in the middle. It's all bank.
The spillway has spotted bass but they are usually under the 14" limit. I have caught a 5 bass stringer of spotted bass over 14" out of the bayou teche though. I will argue the teche is the best for spotted bass in LA.

That stinks. I had no clue we didn't have bigger ones at our northern reservoirs. We also caught at least 100 bass that day. Most 1-2 lbs. this was near the miss border. We started in miss so not sure what state we were in.

4-7 lbs is a monster. I think the Louisiana state record is 4.5 or so. I've caught one 3lbs 7oz, and a couple right at 3lbs. My dad caught one 3lbs 10.5 oz a couple years ago.

Nice fish. I argue that Lake Lanier is the best spotted bass lake in the country. There are some lakes that produce a few bigger fish than Lanier but 365 days per year, Lanier is the best.
I am partial because I fish here 225 days per year but I have been to a lot of lakes and it is awesome for the big spots...
My personal best is 7-3. I have had two clients catch 7-2 pound fish . All on artificial baits
