Another rat snake?

This guy was on the sidewalk at our local river greenway. There was a group of women and children walking towards him but fortunately we scooted him off the path (with the stick in the pic) before they could accidentally step on him and maybe hurt him. He didn't seem very grateful and actually snapped at the stick a couple of times.

Beautiful animal.

Of course I'm being a smartass but the gist of the story is true. It's the first one I've gotten a good look at, great looking animal. It wasn't really aggressive or all that large so we just herded it into the woods.

A large moccasin on the other hand would have died with no hesitation.

Notice the distinctive rat snake oblong head and markings. They're great climbers too. Fine candidate for a child's pet.

I'm not sure why half of you can see it and half can't. It's on the Google site for storing images and I haven't tried that as a source before and won't again.
