Am I the A-hole?

or is the taxidermist?
Backstory: I killed my 1st and 2nd bucks a week apart in December of 21. I took both, one at a time, to the same taxidermist.
I got the 1st buck back Oct of 22. You may remember the pics I posted of the 1st buck, they were bad.
I haven't heard a peep from him about the 2nd buck taken one week after the first, delivered to him one week after the first. It's been two years now. I've texted him a number of times and gotten no response except for when I asked if he was still in the taxidermist business, to which he replied that he was, he just moved his shop/home to another town. But when I'd ask about my mount, nothing. I was thinking he lost the head during his move, or his "slow" brother had lost it. I didn't know what to think because he wouldn't reply for two years. I spoke with two game wardens recently and both said I needed to get law involved since he wouldn't respond.
Today, I reached out again to ask about my mount asking did you lose it, can I get it back, did it get thrown away or damaged? I added that I would get the law involved if needed. He responds with "I tell you what you are going to try and blackmail into a response. 1) I don't answer inquiring messages. Had to stop doing that a while back. If you haven't been contacted then context clues would lead one to believe it's not ready. 2) I'll be home tonight at 8 after I get off from my main job. At which point your deer will be removed from my freezer you have 24 hrs to pick it up at which point it will be discarded." He then lists his lawyers # and game warden #.
I respond with "no blackmail, just trying to get a response man. It's been two years. So you want me to come to your house?"
He replies "Yes. You want your deer back. Yes. 8pm I'm removing it from my freezer. 24hrs. There's your response. Anything further you can call my attorney since we are bringing "law" into it."
Needless to say, I'll be there waiting on him before 8pm tonight.

Give the local cops a heads up and get an escort with a body cam running.

I would call his lawyer, ask for his address, and then write a letter to the lawyer. Maybe the taxidermist will get some unwanted legal fees from it.

Is the OB going in on his Google review page? Just wondering...

No, you're not an a-hole.
I am surprised at how many people though don't do their due diligence in regards to the person they're entrusting to create a piece of wildlife art to last a lifetime. Not saying this is what you did, however if you're expecting something to last and be worthy of hanging on the wall, folks need to forget about saving a buck and hire the most competent and respected in their area.

2 years?
Unless you left out some major details from this story, you are not near being an a-hole. He’s had your head for 2 years AND not responded to you. That’s chicken shite.

From the story you gave, you have every right to be pissed.

They won’t do this.
Depends on the agency and how busy they are.
I would definitely take a witness.

On first deer he asked for one and I paid it. He did not request one for the 2nd deer. That was one of the things I thought that maybe he was holding out on me for but I never got an email, text, or call from him asking for one and he wouldn't respond to me about anything. He had plenty of chances to ask. It didn't come up in his reply today!

I asked already, they won't since it's "a civil matter".
I'll take a friend as a witness and have him film it.

He said he doesn't respond to inquiries. LOL. He doesn't know anything about customer service. There's no effort to respond with a text. It's his side business I learned.

$10 says that deer he pulls out of the freezer ain't yours!
I'd definitely include a local officer with you on your pick up trip.
If continues his BS, I'd take along a warden and ask him to check for proper tagging.

He's got a very good website! He came recommended as well. Good Google reviews. He's not getting his hands on the buck I got last Saturday.

I don't think you're being unreasonable.
HOWEVER, if you ran down his work on the first mount while he was still holding the second...
that probably wasn't wise.

Post pics of 1st and 2nd deer. From old post looks like the 1st one came out pretty bad but the pictures won't load up

1 star google review his arse. Two years is entirely too long and the person comes across as super unprofessional. These guys want to use it as a hobby when their customers expect it to be ran like a business.

Unfortunately this type of service/behavior is becoming more common. It's happened to me before. Nobody wants to do anything anymore, and if you dare question them, they want to have a meltdown.

Looks like you should have downloaded his Trophy Tracker app and you would have known the status.
