All purpose fishing boats

I am looking in to possibly buying a used 17 - 18 foot all purpose fishing boat. I want a boat that can handle shallow water but that can also handle some rough waves as well. I would prefer to stay away from fiberglass hulls and go with the all-weld aluminum. Anyone have any suggestions on what brands I should go after or any other tips for a first time buyer? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I doubt you are gonna find a 17-18 ft aluminum boat that is gonna hamdle rough water very well. A center console will handle it better but still gonna be rough and wet.
Are you looking new or used? What kinda price range?
Xpress seems to be a very popular and well rounded boat. I'd start there.

I agree with the Xpress. I have owned a 18' center console xpress and loved it. My buddy has one now and it is great.

Action craft flats boat. It's fiberglass but is made for the shallow marsh and will handle the waves better than an aluminum boat. And the have a platform over the motor to sight fish for reds an push pole. Your welcome.

A center console can't be beat for all-purpose. Just don't expect a cadillac ride in rough water with a 17 foot boat.

21 foot express. Do whatever we want up to about 4 foot waves. Serves us nicely

I know it's not popular to like these now since they sold out but I'm really liking these with the inverted V hull. Heard the ride is great, there light, and best of all cheap. This is the 16 but I want the 17

Appreciate all the suggestions! I m looking for something in the $6000 range, so I probably won't be able to do the center console. I may have to make my 1st purchase a freshwater boat which will suit me fine for where I am.

You might be able to find an aluminum center console for that price.
