Advice on Quick Access Gun Safes

Looking for a bedside safe which can be opened almost immediately, and is big enough for a Shield 9mm, a S&W Model 10 .38 w/ 4 in barrel, and extra mag/ammo.
Our son is starting to hit the crawling stage and can already stand up holding on to things. Combined with teething, this means every little thing he can get his hands on is something to be chewed on. Are there any safes ya'll have found to be super easy/quick to open when needed? I was thinking a thumbprint safe. But my fingers will get cut up with the job I'm about start, so I wouldn't always trust it to read my fingerprint correctly. Plus if it only holds one print, my wife wouldn't be able to get into it when I'm not home.

I just received, last week, this Sentry Combination Safe that I'm using for my Shield. It's made to sit flat but I also purchased a magnetic mount so that I can mount the safe to the side of my bed and with the mount inside it will hold the gun in the correct position I need it in without falling out when the door opens. It requires at a minimum 5 presses (1 to activate it - button lights come on - and then a minimum 4 press combination of any of the 4 buttons)
I got it on sale for $69.99 but even at $100, I think it's a bargain for peace of mind for child safety.
Check out the reviews and you'll see a guy who set his up the same way with the magnetic mount and light.
This is the magnet mount I ordered
I also added this motion a riveted LED light.

Typically the bio safes hold more prints than you have fingers.
If your wife uses lotion I recommend against the bio readers. Those readers are super cheap and I find not reliable. I've had issues even installations that use readers that cost thousands more.
I'm also not a fan of the rfid stuff either. I could see using an rfid safe if it had a key pad as well.
If you are looking for personal experience, my wife and I tried bio and manual safes and went to keeping the pistol unloaded with a magazine in the drawer with the pistol. Our twins are a little over a year old and we feel confident with that situation. When they get older we plan on revisiting our solution.

I cut a hole in the lining of my box springs. Installed one of these to one of the wooden cross pieces.

Stick gun directly to magnet. It's been in there for 8 years. It gets pulled out every once and a while for cleaning and function testing. Forgot to pull it out when we rearranged the bedroom any it stayed put after being banged around. I've always considered the likelyhood that someone would lift the bed skit, stick their hand through a slit in the box spring, and find the pistol highly unlikely.
If I need it I would roll out of bed (my side is away from the bedroom entry door so that would put me in cover from anyone entering the bedroom) reach into the lining and pull my pistol out.

I can just see me rolling over in the middle of the night hitting that headboard and having a shotgun fall on my wife's head.

quote:I always read the worst Amazon reviews on things, and that one you linked says it burns through batteries very fast. I looked into a few GunVault models and the bad reviews say the locking mechanism is absolute shite and doesn't work half the time. I have yet to find one that doesn't seem to have some show-stopping problem.

As of now, my wife and I do like another poster said and keep them unloaded in the drawer with magazine beside. But we really want a combination safe that is reliable, and I'm having no luck finding one.
