Question for the tech savvy OB'ers - we created a map of all of our stands roads and trails and uploaded them using My Maps on Google Earth on our iPhones. We did this a few years ago and it has been working great up to this year. When I was bow hunting I noticed they were no longer showing up - no problem, I can just re-upload them. Wrong - when I try I get an error message "the Operation couldn't be performed.....". I can log on to google maps on desktop and view the files, but not using google earth on phone.

Anyone else have this issue or have any advice?

Thanks

I may be mistaken, but Google changed something about their maps and how that feature worked, when it did, it deleted your maps unless you had them saved elsewhere. Seems like I read an article or got an email about it.

I use GE extensively for work, and map everything in desktop, then save to my phone as a KMZ, but don't store anything in the app.

I was coming here to ask about maps. Can you tell me where to go to learn how to create our maps and upload them? What did y'all use to create? Can you print them out in large format?
Thanks!

Huntinguy - thanks - that's what we did - we GPS'd trails and roads and stands then saved as a kmz file and stored in google maps account. from there it was simple as opening google earth and then uploading them from google maps account - not so much any more. I had heard when they "upgraded" it caused this feature not to work but that some folks had found a work around. That's what I am looking for.

I will keep looking and if I have any luck I will post back.

we used a GPS to locate then converted the file. we can print them etc. feature used to work great but not now and I am still looking for that fix.

for your situation, if you have access to a GPS, that's the best way, or you can go to google earth and drop pins if you can see features on the aerials.

You have to pay for the good Google map maker now. Make sure you are going through "Classic My Maps" and i have been able to avoid most of the headache. Luckily all my old ones still work.

like this one.

Glad to hear it

Just found an option that appears to be working. E-mail the KML or KMZ file to yourself and open on your iPhone. Do this by holding down on the file and you will get an option to "open in google earth" I did this and the bdy, roads and stands pulled in to google earth. Pretty sure it is not saved but I have closed out and re-opened and the information is still there as a layer.

Make a big paper map, take a high quality picture on your phone, and you'll always have a backup. Zoom I'm when you need to. That's what I usually do
