I have to split about 20 guns with my sibling today because my mother asked me to since my father passed away last month. I love new guns but I would rather they just sit at her house. I don't even know how to split them up

flip a quarter as to who goes first. take turns selecting. Or if there are obvious sentimental attachments w/ a few with a particular sibling, remove them from consideration. I'd want my kids to be happy when they get my guns passed down.

That sucks for sure. We did the same thing with my grandfather's collection and not three years later my dad passed away. It was a year on November 24th but we haven't touched Dad's yet as my mom isn't ready to deal with any of that.

He really wanted a 50's Colt 1911 so I'm just going to let him choose first and he can choose that one. It's the best gun in the collection and he really seems to want it.

I grabbed my dads old .38 the day of the funeral. Straight outta the turnpike troubadours song.

Keep the guns that have practical uses like home defense, hunting, etc. That way you hopefully wont feel as bad in such a tough situation.

One of the toughest conversations I ever had with Pawpaw Levi was which grandkid gets which guns when he passes. Thankfully hasn't happened yet, but I don't envy you buddy.

What Chad504boy said. My grandfather left me and my two brothers three silver dollars. We had to decide who got which. We were overjoyed that he left them for us. The guns are a gift, left behind for you. You accept the gift with joy and grace.

I gave my boys a spreadsheet and access to the firearms. They checked off what the decided was a good split.

Man, that is tough. I am fortunate in that regard - my dad's only son. I will leave it to my 4 sons to split them but there will be plenty of discussion before hand God willing.

The idea of taking turns selecting starting with a coin toss is a good one. Keep an eye on the ones with a lot of sentimental value for one particular sibling.

Going shooting this weekend, I'll do that.

Trey got a 30cal can, you should make your way back over this direction and shoot sometime

I have 3 siblings. For my parents stuff we wanted to divide, we basically wrote numbers 1-4 on pieces of paper, and put them in a hat. Whomever drew out number 1 picked first, then 2-4.
We divided items into groups of 4 so we each got something from a group.
Once we did a round, number 2 went first the next round and so on.

Seemed like the fairest way each of us got to choose something first that was our parents.

This and so sorry for your lost.

To help in my case, I have been giving my guns to my kids and grandson. I just have two rifles, a couple handguns and a couple shot guns left. Done told them what is what and who gets what.

Did that with a bunch of land too! The only thing I own now is my home place. Did this due to my health and don't want Uncle Sam to take anything.
