i have a 2002 mercury 4 stroke (merc-aha) i rigged on to a pontoon boat last year. the rigging package i got came with a new mercury harness and new analog tach

i cannot, for the life of me, get the tach to work. I have the purple, gray and black wires connected properly...theres not much guesswork there, its cut & dried. what could possibly be the problem?

merc says ANY analog tach should work. before i go buy a new tach, is there some trick i should know about?

Did you check the wiring going back to the motor? Could it be disconnected or frayed?
