7 Marine engines

I stumbled upon these engines on YouTube again yesterday, and was thinking that I haven't ever seen one IRL (probably because of the price tag). They sound bad arse though. I think the 557 is out of a CTS-V and the 627 is out of a Vette. Pretty amazing engineering behind them.
I was wondering if any of you OB'ers have ever seen/heard/ridden in a boat with one and how they perform?

Our biggest pleasant surprise running the quad setup is the fuel efficiency is pretty good considering we are making over 70 knots.

Aren't they something like $80k a pop? The closed loop cooling system is kinda of neat but outside of that I struggle to see the value in them. Not sure I would go the seven marine route if I were building a tournament center console when I get the yamahas for half the price.

Yeah, the 557s are like $80k. No idea on the 627. The way they got that whole engine working is awesome. I read that they have to have custom designed props for their engines, and off the shelf stuff won't work

Or they are a huge joke. It can go either way. I'm inclined to believe they are a "look at me" outboard rather than an improvement on current design.

All the go fast pussy boats in south Florida have them. 50' center consoles with quads, couches, teak decks, Italian leather, LEDs, spray tans, and $50k sound systems.

They make a ton of power. Tim Allen tells me that's good. If they're more efficient with more power, it doesn't seem that outrageous. The only problem is the price, but maybe they're working towards a 400

The argument can be made that the Chevy small block is one of the most simple and reliable gas-burning engines on the planet. I don't know if this would directly translate for an aquatic outboard, but it's definitely true of street cars. Go to YouTube and type in "LS swap" and see how many videos pop up.

Problem is that once you get to these 40 foot plus center consoles they are weighing in close to 20k lbs or more and take monster horsepower to move. You would need quad 300s which is more complicated and more prone to problems and uses more fuel than a twin 557/627 engine setup. Not to mention the 557 weighs less than two 250-300's. Plus twin skegs in the water is less drag than 4 so top speeds of the high horsepower twin will be greater than the quad. That said builders are going even larger and strapping quad 7's

This is debatable. Adding outboards doesn't necessarily compound problems. Plus they Yamaha 300 is a proven platform with dealer support vs the 7 marine that has been around for only a few years.
I would like to see real work fuel burn numbers. Four stroke gas engines seldom produce more than 10 or so hp per gallon per hour. That potentially puts the burn rate on twin 557's could north of 100 gallons an hour. Best case 90 gph.
