I want a full size .45ACP pistol for a range toy. I don’t want a 1911. I have long fingers so I don’t want a thin grip. Budget is $800 max.

I think I’ve narrowed it down to the Glock 41 or FN FNX45. Both have good reviews. FWIW I own a Glock 20 and love it. Never shot a FN so it intrigues me. I don’t know anyone with the FN and don’t see them for rent anywhere so I’m unsure of the trigger feel.

Any experiences with these? or any recommendations for any others?

I have an FNX45 Tactical. It is a big pistol, so your hands will not swallow it like the HK/Walther/Smith 9mms.

The biggest difference is the FN is hammer fired with a safety and decocker vs. the striker fired Glock. The trigger is DA/SA on the FN. It is really accurate also.
It's a big pistol though, especially when you put a suppressor on it.

M&P45 M2.0

My personal choice.

My buddy swears by the Sig P220.

Glock 30. Also a 30s with a slim slide but I prefer the regular 30 slide. 10 round mags but I also carry a 21 mag that holds 13. Good enough for Mas Ayoob, good enough for me.

Glock 41A, long slide, developed by Glock as their competition pistol. Long slide and additional recoil spring enhances accuracy and reduces recoil. Mine feels more like a 9mm than a 45 ACP. its easy and comfortable to shoot. I mounted a TLR 8 on it and use it as my bedroom/house pistol.

Walther has a full size .45 that’s a sweet shooting gun, feels more like shooting a 9 than a 45

The FNX is big, trigger is shitty, and cost is over your budget unless you find one used. But it’s a cool gun.

The non-tactical version is only around $800. I don’t have plans on buying a suppressor so I don’t care about the threaded barrel.

How is the trigger is shitty? Reviews seem to like the trigger. What do you recommend instead?

Damn now I have to consider HK. All the reviews are positive on all of them and all the prices are similar.

Where do y’all try out guns before buying? Rental selection is limited at the ranges around me (in Katy).

Arched mainspring housing, wider grips and a long trigger all extend the trigger reach.

10-4, I was thinking the tactical.

I handled a used Tactial, trigger had creep, spongy, basically not a 1911 trigger, which based on my limited experience they’re all shitty compared to a 1911.

I got a hankering for the Fnx for the larger capacity, but as stated she’s a huge bitch.

Today I shot a Glock 21. It was fine as expected and I’m tempted by the longer slide Glock 41.

But just for something different and maybe nicer, I’m still looking at an HK or Walther. Anyone have experience in comparing those two brands in their full size 45ACP?
