That is absolutely the case. 9mm is about ammo selection.
And if that guy had been shooting ball in a .40, it would have done the exact same thing. Caliber is not a magic spell to end ammo and accuracy problems.

Where you hit is way more important that what you hit with.

I'm in the process of trading in my Glock22 .40 cal for Glock19 9mm. As soon as I find the G19 for the price I like (400) I will buy it and put the G22 on the shelf.

I love how every .40S&W proponent has an anecdotal story about how they know someone, maybe a cop friend, that fired a bunch of 9mm at someone but didn't hit vitals, and somehow shooting a different caliber is going to fix that.
9x19 parabellum was in the German Luger, its in the current Beretta sidearm issue, and its in use by countless police and military organizations around the world. Literally countless.

I have 9mm Extreme Shock rounds in my XD when it's in the night stand. Hopefully I never have to use them.

My other two magazines are just standard 9mm Luger.

I have the Springfield XD SubCompact 9mm and i LOVE IT!
I tried the .40 and didn't like it as much (not to mention the less capacity mag and more expensive ammo).

I have a 1911 9mm and an H&K USP .40 already but need to get an IWB carry piece. Any suggestions??
If you're looking for something that carries nice w/ an IWB holster that's also a good defensive round, you've already got it w/ the 1911 in 9 mm (assuming yours will shoot HP's well). I've got a Springfield XD in 40 that was bought expressly for concealed carry using an IWB holster. Admittedly, mine has a 4" barrel compared to the subcompact you're talking about, but the main thing to me that determines how comfortable a gun is to carry IWB is gun thickness, especially grip thickness. My Kel-Tec PF9 and 1911 in 45 ACP are both much more comfortable to carry IWB than is the XD. If you're itching for a new gun, the Subcompact XD is a good one. But it may not be as comfortable to carry as the 1911 9 mm you already have.
As far as the 9 vs 40 debate, I obviously feel comfortable w/ either one, as long as appropriate loads are used, espcially NOT full metal jacketed loads.
