I have a EOtech on one of my ARs and am looking to outfit my AR15-22 with the same (or similar) set up for practicing in the yard suppressed. My question is two fold.

1. Do I need a EOtech magnifier (not NEED as in have to have to use but is the difference worth the price)?
2. Should i set up both guns exact with sights or is similar (22 with cheaper magnifier and optic) good enough?

Trying to figure out if I need to drop another grand on sights for the 22 or if a solid $150 scope and magnifier are close enough. TIA

BSA sweet 22 3x9 is ultimate fun for ar12-22 plinking fun. It's really hard to justify an eotec or something similar on a 22

Yeah but the purpose of the 22 is to simulate my AR15 set up but shoot at home. Want similar if not exact set ups on the two

depends on your eyeballs I guess
common complaint on the Burris magnifier is that the swing away mount doesn't always come back to center on the optic in front of it

if it was me I'd get a low power scope with illuminated reticle instead

Why do you feel the need to have a magnifier for your back yard? Serious question I'm not trying to be sarcastic. Trying to better understand what your getting at.
If its strictly for practice I would go with the same or similar. If it's a 2 MOA dot I'd got with a 2 MOA and so on. If your looking for something cheaper try the vortex Sparc 2, or the new Sparc AR. It's a really good red dot for the price. $200 and under depending on where you get it.

I live on 4 acres and have a ton of squirrels. I don't shoot them (yet) but the potential to practice longer (60-70 yd shots) is there

Oh ok. I know someone who had a vortex 3x magnifier with his eotech and he loves it. Another buddy sold him that eotech because he preferred the Sparc. Its a really good red dot for the price. you can always order the Sparc and Magnifier on Amazon. If you don't like it send it back. They have a great return policy.

Awesome, I've been vary satisfied with vortex stuff in the past so I'll look at that magnifier.

I get trying to simulate what your regular AR has but that setup can get pretty expensive for a 22. Plus having a magnifier and red dot can make your sight system very bulky and long which is another detriment to a small, light 22 rifle.

But the Vortex Sparc as someone else suggested would be decent even though I've heard the magnifier isn't great.

Or you could go with just a low power magnified optic. That would probably be my course of action if I wanted to get accurate shots on some squirrels.

For a 22 I would not drop a grand on optics. The sparc 2 or strike fire 2 will do great with a 3x magnifier for anything 100 yards or less. Definitely go with a 2 moa dot or you wont be able to see much of a small target. I've tried a few and the Burris AR tripler focuses better than the vortex tripler. It depends on your budget.

Have you considered the CMMG conversion kit? Apparently you just swap the BCG and use a different magazine. Never have used it myself but its got good reviews. If you want to simulate your AR it seems more practical than outfitting a 22 with a grand of optics.

I have the CMMG kit and I haven't used it in years. The twist rate on the barrel isn't optimized for 22LR so it's not all that accurate. If you're shooting upclose it doesn't matter that much but accuracy drops a good bit when extending further than 25-50 yards.
