I just got the CVA Elite Stalker .35 Whelen this summer. I have killed 2 deer with it and it is deadly. I have it sighted in at 200 yds and I am very pleased, good luck.

Thanks for the info. I have been looking at either getting the elite stalker or the scout.

This is considered a "primitive weapon" right?

I'd like to get a T/C Pro Hunter in 35 Whelen. I wonder if Cabelas or Bass Pro sell it?

I would figure they do. They could for sure order you one if they didn't have one in stock.

This isn't legal for primitive weapon season as far as I know.

Why is that?

Because it wasn't designed before 1895 or some shite along those lines.

The law may have changed since I last read it, but I know for a fact the TC encore used to not be legal.

I thought it just had to be single shot in those calibers to be legal for primitive.

Effective with the 2012-2013 Louisiana hunting season, the following firearms are legal for use during the primitive firearm deer season:

1. Rifles or pistols, .44 caliber minimum, or shotguns 10 gauge or smaller, all of which must load exclusively from the muzzle or cap and ball cylinder, use black powder or approved substitute only, take ball or bullet projectile only, including saboted bullets, including primitive firearms known as “in line” primitive firearms, and

2. Single shot, breech loading rifles, .35 caliber or larger having an exposed hammer that uses metallic cartridges loaded either with black powder or modern smokeless powder. All of the above may be fitted with magnified scopes.
I thought that it may fall under #2. I have no clue though

Unless they've changed the law, there's more to it than that.

In 2008, the rules were fine-tuned again. The caliber requirement was reduced to .35, opening the door to the .35 Whelen. The rifle’s need to be of a design prior to 1900 was dropped. Also rifles with interchangeable barrels were included.

Nope. they recently changed it. 35 Whelen is OK in LA

I love mine. It's compact, packs a punch and is usable year round as it is accurate to 200 yds or more

Oh shite. I got you here. Used my buddy's FIL's onSaturday. Only shot it once. That's a BAMF. 200 grain bullet does serious damage to a whitetail.

I got a 35 whelen last summer when I heard from credible sources they were going to be legal. I've been so happy with it, I haven't got my other rifle out of the safe all year. I opted for the tc pro hunter and it has dropped all 5 I've shot on spot. I did have to shoot one twice yesterday due to a poor shot on my part on the first round. The second shot to the back of the head was ugly. I'd post pics but I'm sure it's against the rules and your thread would get whacked.
