I am in the market for a 30-06, I know the board favors Tikka - but I have about a $1000 to play with for both rifle and glass.

I have been researching heavy the TC Venture and am leaning in that direction, but what are some other recommendations to stay within my budget?

TIA

Tikka and Nikon Monarch or Leupold VX3 or Vortex Viper. Rifle should be &600 and all of those scopes are around $400.

I'd go Ruger M77, Win Model 70, or Rem 700, leaning towards a Win M70 Featherweight. Feel the trigger on an M70 anyway.

I handled the Tikka, Mossberg, Savage and Ruger American on Monday and they all felt like cheap pieces of shite to me.

They may feel cheap but they will put bullets where they need to. Deer doesn't give a frick how much you paid either.

So you think that the 700 or Win70 feels nice but the Tikka feels like a cheap piece of shite?

Disregard anything this dude has to say, OP (except that the M77 is a good option. It is a great gun)

So $2k? Then I'd still get a Tikka T3 and spend the remaining 1200 or so on optic.

It's my opinion, with all the Tikka hype I had to put hands on. I'm Meh for realz. My old Stainless Rem 700 will put them where I point it, too.

I'll give Ruger M77 another vote. I have one in .270, very nice tigger pull and shoots better than I can.
