I have used one for over. 45 years. Fantastic gun. Glass bedded my stock years ago. Shoots really well. I have killed a few over 400 yards with it. I have a pro reload for me. 100 grain bullets. Fast as hell and do major damage. You won't regret it!!

Looks like this isn't you're first rodeo building a gun... It is my first time... What caliber would you suggest for a 6, 7, 800 yard gun used mainly for killing hogs, coyotes, occasionally a deer, and target practice?

Man, I'm no prefessional, but I would look for something in the 6.5mm family. 260 remington and a 6.5 Creedmor are garnering a lot of attention right now. I like the high ballistic coefficients that the 6.5's offer, but you may lose a little too much energy at long range to be an effective hog killer. Hogs are not an easily dispatched animal!

Damn, I have enough trouble making my mind up for my own rifles! Caliber is such a personal decision.

Yeah. I got interested a little about a year ago, but pretty much put it on the backburner. But, my cousin has a boyfriend from Wyoming and he's visiting this week. We got to talking about guns, and he's gotten into a little long range stuff and we were talking calibers. I wish I had more time to talk with him 1) because his accent/lingo is hilarious to me, and 2) he seemed to know a lot about it and it got me back interested in getting started on my own build... It's all a little overwhelming when you start reading about all the different factors.

eta: What about a 270 wsm? I have a Tikka 270wsm that I'm not doing anything with. What's something cool I could do with that?
