Call me crazy but why are ya'll suggesting a 308 for elk hunting? Yes it will get it done but if he has a safe full of guns shouldnt he have something better suited for game that big?

It's what he has.
My uncle kills them with a 7mm08. Like deer hunting with a .243 IMO. It's marginal.
.308 is a little better because you can launch some heavier bullets.

There isn't anything short of a brown bear in North America that I wouldn't feel comfortable shooting with a .308.

Never been shot and no scope though, was nwtf gun of the year a few yrs ago, all the gold engravings n shite.. Too purty! Haha
And i think they were just saying it would get the job done, i wasnt asking for an elk gun.. Just something different than what i already had, and 7mm-08 was the choice out of the 2 fr larger game
