Gun or ammo?

I'm assuming gun.

How much you wanna spend? Henry makes the best one under $500 IMO.

I have the savage with the bull barrell and thumb hole stock. I absolutely LOVE it. I have the SBE2, the browning 7 mag x-bolt and other guns, but the .17 is probably my favorite. Its a killing machine.

Savage makes a quality .17 at a reasonable price.

I've got a Savage HMR with the accu-trigger that I picked up at a Bass Pro a few years ago. If the weather is good, I am going to take it to the woods this weekend.

I had a bull barrel savage .22 (they make the same gun in.17) with a laminate stock and accu-trigger an it was a damn laser. Shot just as well as my brothers competition 10/22. I could not get past the stupid clipazine sticking out the bottom though. It never fed worth a damn either. Traded it in for a Henry and don't regret it.

I shot my buddy's HMR over the holidays and really liked it. Very accurate.

Ruger Model 7717, also have a tapered barrel blued/walnut version. We have both and I was impressed with the accuracy before I bought the heavier stainless one, it is literally a tack driver. Rotary 9 round magazine fits flush and out of the way. Just buy good optics, took one shooting session for me to realize I was limiting the gun with my 2-7x rimfire scope. She now wears a VX3 4.5-14x

I have one of the stainless steel Savages with synthetic stock. My first Savage, but I love it. There are a few good makes out there though. I would narrow it down to about 3 you like and shop for the best price.

Just buy the savage because
1. It is a damn fine shooter
2. If you have to get rid of it in a hurry you haven't lost but +/- $250

3. Cheap so you can afford two, one to shite on and one to cover it up with
FIFY

Buy the Ruger and you'll never get rid of it.

have savage and marlin. I like the savage trigger but both are pin point. I have been to several turkey shoots over the past 3-4 years with mine if you are familiar with those, and usually win 10-15 turkeys a year with the marlin. Dead on shooter, get the heavy barrel for sure though because it doesnt take it long to get hot

Pretty sure he is not referring to having to sell it.
