Bought a new gas tank for an outboard motor as the old one started to leak. Problem is the new EPA gas tank cap that doesn't let the tank vent. $@#@ing thing blows up like a balloon so much it broke the mounting point for the tie down strap. Any redneck engineering way to keep the tank from blowing up like a balloon? Just leave the tank cap loose? GoreTex vent plug?

The new style tanks are garbage. I have the same problem with them swelling and then my engine wants to suck them down then starves itself for fuel. I ended up finding an old cap in my shed and put the old style cap with the threaded vent onto the new tank.

Pull out the vent then remove the o-ring.

Yea just remove the oring that causes the seal no need to mcgyver it up and drill it

Only our government could take something as simple as a gas can and screw it up...
