"referring to an injured man on a stretcher, (he) said, "Leave him." "
"BP had hundreds of barrels of the two chemicals on hand and needed to dispose of it, Lindner testified. By first flushing it into the well, the company could take advantage of an exemption in an environmental law that otherwise would have prohibited the discharge of the hazardous waste into the gulf"
"A BP audit of the rig in September found 390 maintenance issues that had not been resolved, BP lawyer Richard Godfrey said"
They're gonna get some info from these hearings

Anyone know how many rigs BP had in the gulf prior to the explosions?

Don't they operate Thunderhorse? I know that was almost sunk during installation.

Did you even read the article?
The first quote to which you refer was made by the Captain of the rig, a Transocean employee. The rig that was audited (DWH) is Transocean's rig. BP is not responsible for the equipment on the rig--Transocean is.
I've been hesitant to start pointing fingers, but all of the bashing of BP employees, and especially Don Vidrine and Bob Kaluza, is completely unsubstantiated.

Other parties of interest named by the panel include James Harrell, Transocean’s offshore installation manager on the rig; Douglas Brown, the chief mechanic; and Mike Williams, chief engineer technician on the vessel, according to the panel’s website. No BP employees have been individually designated as persons of interest.
