A gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo was shot and killed Saturday after it grabbed and dragged a 4-year-old boy who fell into the animal’s enclosure, an official said.

Authorities said the boy, who fell 10 to 12 feet into the gorilla exhibit moat, is expected to recover after being picked up from the moat and dragged by the gorilla for about 10 minutes. The boy was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Zoo officials said he was alert when he was transported there.

Absolutely the right decision.

Does the Cincinnati Police Department plan on issuing any charges of child negligence to the parents/guardians who clearly weren't paying attention to the frickin' 4-year-old?

It's a shame a poor primate had to be gunned down just because he was defending his territory.

They should've thrown the parents in there too and completely wiped that gene pool from earth. That gorilla should not have died.

Yes, the animal locked in a cage for our amusement should be allowed to kill children who fall in

I am definitely against aquariums. And I am kinda against zoos. I am all for wildlife conservation in the ma h forms it takes. But in many cases, the state we keep these animals in is immoral. Zoos should bring glory to the animals, and too many of them reduce the animals to "amusement".

How long have you worked for PETA? Only in your little world would a gorilla > child. Let's hope you don't reproduce so the world doesn't have to deal with your gene pool.

Eh, I don't think that's what he meant. Of COURSE you kill the gorilla to save the child.

His point is that it sucks the gorilla had to be put down because of the actions of irresponsible parents. The gorilla is acting in accordance with its own nature. The parents were just idiots.

I'm glad we're on the same page. Though I bet they'd charge extra to watch the toddler pit of death. That's how they get you.

quote:

He was a good gorilla, he did nothing to nobody. Zoo people be so quick to kill a gorilla these days. He love his family he loved his tire swing.

Now that makes you wonder if it could've been handled differently. They totally could've killed that gorilla.

It seems like they would have a tranquilizer dart gun to knock an animal out. Wouldn't that be possible?

I hear you man. These majestic creatures shouldn't be in cages for dumb tourists to pay an admission and point at. They should be free to roam the wilderness and climb the Empire State Building.

I think the kid was already unconscious. That didn't stop the gorilla.
