You're better off dead: evidently so according to the experts

20 y/o euthanized after unsuccessful treatment
Bison calf euthanized after unsuccessful reunion with herd
Why not put the girl in a medically induced coma for a couple of years and wake her up and see if she is better?
Why not adopt the calf to a farmer who can raise it?
Why do people think you're better off dead? What if death sucks worse than we think?

I your case, I may have to agree.

In your scenario, a human life and a buffalo life are the same?

I just find it odd that experts agree that they both were better off dead.

1) I guess they are unsure if keeping her in a coma could possibly just lead to her condition becoming worse. However, I see your point.
2) Perhaps the calf might have some deficiencies they are not mentioning.
3) I think the death of people and animals is resorted to when other immediate solutions are not available. Or they simply don't have the time/space to keep up with them in their present state (see hospitals/hospices)
4) Whether life or death is better is dependent on the perspective.
I honestly feel like your threads are a lower level than mine, yet you get a free pass.

Bison carry blackleg disease, which is deadly to domestic cattle. They have to be quarantined. It's not just a matter of dropping them off at some random farmer's and saying, "here, have a bison on us." In fact, there's been quite a bit of pushback from ranchers around Yellowstone about the growing bison herd in the park.

From what I've read, Yellowstone bison are prone to brucellosis infection. Brucellosis is highly contagious and can spread from the bison to cattle. There are large cattle operations in that area and if a herd were to be infected, the whole thing would have to be euthanized. The National Park Service regularly culls bison as they often leave the park in search of food in the winter.

This. Blackleg/brucellosis are the same thing.

But in Montana there are Bison farmers. They raise Bison commercially and one of those farmers could take the calf.

Their herds are certified disease free. They can't let a wild bison in among their stock, even if they wanted to.
ETA: if it was some other outfit, I may have some questions. But if the NPS says there was nothing they could do, I tend to believe them. I hate it for the calf who suffered because of stupid humans, who will get off with not much more than a stern talking to, if that.

Kafka,
This is second time you have posted a gif that plays a movie backwards. I do not normally need assistance with this sort of thing, but I apologize for asking. What is God's green earth is that supposed to mean? I know it will only make me feel worse about myself, as I realize you do not like me. But I am trying to learn new things all the time.

As far as the Bison Calf,a strong argument can be made for adopting it out.
But they may have wanted to send a strong signal of Don't frick with the wild animals at Yellowstone.
