A group of GOP Wyoming state lawmakers want to end electric vehicle sales there by 2035, saying the move will help safeguard the oil and gas industries.

quote:

The measure, introduced to the state legislature on Friday, was sponsored by six state legislators, who said in it that electric vehicles will hinder Wyoming’s ability to trade with other states. The bill states that citizens and industries would be encouraged not to purchase electric vehicles before the ban goes into effect.

“The proliferation of electric vehicles at the expense of gas-powered vehicles will have deleterious impacts on Wyoming’s communities and will be detrimental to Wyoming’s economy and the ability for the country to efficiently engage in commerce,” the bill reads.

The legislation said that adding new power charging stations would require “massive” amounts of new power to “sustain the misadventure of electric vehicles.”

The bill added that the oil industry has employed thousands of people in the state.

This is so dumb. If someone wants to purchase an EV they should have every chance to

Though there might be two EVs in all of Wyoming so this seems more like virtue signaling than anything.

It's the old two wrongs make a right rationale, or a first idiot decision makes a second idiot decision less idiotic.

"California did a mandate, so what's wrong with Wyoming doing one?"

Anyone banning any kind of vehicle is a moron. I don’t care if you want to drive a deleted F-250 or a fully electric Prius.

Just stop this stupidity.

Stupid. The government needs to stay out of private transactions. Don’t subsidize them, but don’t ban their sales.

Tell that to this administration and California. The modern and future world isn't going to be all electric and there's no reason for it to be. The realistic world has use for both electric vehicles (which is currently and for the foreseeable future predominantly powered from fossil fuels) and ICE vehicles. Smart leaders would push both to grow in every way possible. Let people decide the natural flow of what is provided by demand for it, not demand that it's this or that.

They're doing the opposite of California, and trying to keep a homegrown industry.

They just don't have the population to make it work.

The EV industry will die from its own impracticality. It's not necessary to legislate the end of EVs.

Unsurprisingly, dumb people don't understand this is done for economic purposes, though it probably will not work.
