Someone is going to need to explain this to me. Why do I need a mister for my AC unit?
Posted on 6/15/17 at 3:39 pm to Tigeralum2008
Seems like this has been around for several years. I guess it never took off?
Posted on 6/15/17 at 3:40 pm to Tigeralum2008
does this work by cooling the air a little bit before it goes into your unit?
Posted on 6/15/17 at 3:40 pm to Tigeralum2008
But what does it do?
It looks to me like it would definitely make your grass/plants around your central unit very happy.
Since your unit works on the concept of evaporation, I'm not sure how adding extra humidity to your coils would be a benefit.
This may be OK for areas with low humidity...not for the gulf states.

Seems like it could speed up corrosion of parts but I'm no metallurgist

Probably works great in Phoenix, not so much in BR.

Water is never your friend. I can see this causing all kinds of corrosion and problems. Yes, I understand it gets rained on, but a continual source of water like this on regular intervals is no good. Just like when that sprinkler head gets aimed on your house.

my interp is that the spray mist cools the temperature around the outside of the coils and therefore maximizes efficiency
They claim this process is already in effect for larger commercial units

If it ends up making it and it hits market at $19.99, I will buy one. Screw it, it's worth a shot.

I think having shade over your outside unit would be a big help as well

It's basically an evaporative cooler for your coils. It really only works in dry climates.

You can buy it for $349

Yea. Ones like this by Tiger Stadium use water/mist. But they operate completely differently.

Wiki:
An evaporative cooler (also swamp cooler, desert cooler and wet air cooler) is a device that cools air through the evaporation of water. Evaporative cooling differs from typical air conditioning systems, which use vapor-compression or absorption refrigeration cycles. Evaporative cooling works by exploiting water's large enthalpy of vaporization. The temperature of dry air can be dropped significantly through the phase transition of liquid water to water vapor (evaporation). This can cool air using much less energy than refrigeration. In extremely dry climates, evaporative cooling of air has the added benefit of conditioning the air with more moisture for the comfort of building occupants.

Right, that's how it makes the unit more efficient. It reduces the temperature inside the unit causing the freon inside the coils to cool quicker.

How does it work? What does the misting water do?

Ah

I think the 30% in savings in plausible in the best of circumstances. Water being blown over a condenser unit's coils would certainly make it more efficient. Window A/C units already do this to some extent using the outside fan to pick up the condensate water and sprinkle it onto the condenser coil. However condensate water and tap water are different things. I would not chlorinated water constantly being blown on my 1k+ A/C part.
I'll definitely be passing on this gadget.
Seems like when a company wants to generate buzz for a product they will claim it's from Australia or another friendly accent sounding country.
