Would you refer to this person as a “doctor” outside of an academic setting?

If we must all grant this title of nobility to highly indebted people with a special piece of paper and limited value to society, how then should you refer to someone with a master’s degree?

How about Dr Phill? I don’t think he’s really any kind of doctor. Neither is that cat that sells shoe inserts.

What did Dr Martin Luther King study?

People with a PhD who insist on being called "Doctor" outside of professional settings are attention whores.

now that i'm old enough that some friends/people i grew up with are MDs, i even find calling MDs "doctor" silly outside of a medical setting for the most part

They only people who deserve to be called Doctor outside of a classroom are MD.

You can get a fricking PhD in exercise science or library studies, that doesn't make you special.

These are the same people who if they got their JD would use the term Esquire.
