a hour and a half later have a strong effect on one's glucose level?
My glucose is normally around 100 but on today's draw it was 135.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm just trying to learn. Please keep the smartass replies to a minimum. Thank you.

Yes, if you are diabetic.
Report to your doctor at the next visit and get him to do an A1c test.

Yup. That would do it. Especially if you drank a coke or had fries with it. Its normal to have your blood sugar go up 35-40 points an hour after eating. 135 is normal under the circumstances. 100 is fine.

most likely. Its got a fair bit of refined carbs, and you probably got ketchup on it, which is filled with sugar.
If you are under 140 1-2 hours after eating, you are probably good. Ideally under 120, but if you are 100 normally you probably wont get there.

quote:Yes, that huge bun is terrible. Fasting glucose is just that - a measure of your fasting glucose. If you don't fast, then your blood reflects that. Do what someone else said and order a Hemoglobin A1C test - it's intended to be a depiction of your average blood glucose over 3 months. Hemoglobin is a protein on blood cells. The theory is that, over time, sugar attaches to it and becomes "glycated". Red blood cells have a lifespan of about 3 months, so it's possible to "read" these. You should also have your insulin resistance tested and evaluate your A1C reading in that context. If you show no signs of insulin resistance, then a high-ish A1C reading is probably not concerning anyway.

Fasting Glucose levels should be under 100, key word there is FASTING. You were not fasting so your body was still in the process of converting the Whopper to energy, that takes a while.
If you go see your doc for a follow-up, make sure to tell him you were not fasting before the collection, he will likely get it repeated.
Your lipid levels are probably all jacked up too if those were tested (HDL, LDL, Cholesterol, Triglycerides) those tests also need to be tested while you have been fasting.

I don't know about glucose, but I have high cholesterol and I forgot to fast one day and ate, I believe, fried chicken before going and he called back shortly after very concerned until I told him I forgot to fast.

Checks out. Do you care that you're killing yourself?

Anytime I give blood samples (annual DOT physical) I am instructed not to eat or drink past midnight the night before the blood draws.
You're screwed.

I'm 26 years old, 5'8, weigh 155 pounds, and work out regularly. Everyone on my dads side has HC and has for as long as we know (generation wise). I generally eat healthy, but I'm not going to completely give up things I enjoy just because I have HC. I die younger so be it. Doc told me there is nothing I can do about it, it's genetic. Spare me your bullshite.
