bluebonnet should be 35 or 40, but only if cars followed the speed limit. any faster and it gets dangerous. you can't see cars that are going 50 mph til they're right on you when you're pulling out of some of those streets. the only reason there aren't more wrecks is because most cars keep it under 40 on bluebonnet. it'll probably stay the same since drivers think its ok to go 10 mph over the speed limit on all streets.

The problem with that is that there are huge wood fences on either side enclosing the neighborhoods and separating them from the four lane stretch.
There's an agreement with the parish and the homeowners association that the speed limit would not be raised above 30. Yes, it's dumb. But I kinda get it. Everybody drives 40+ there. If they raised the speed limit to 40 or 45, people would be driving 60+ over there. Try pulling out of a side street there with people going that fast.
It's an inconvenience that I've come to live with.

There was always a rumor that they aligned it that way so that southbound traffic would have a head-on view of the state capital when heading through the curve. He said that wasn't true, and that alignment was the only way that they could connect the two portions of the freeway, due to existing adjacent properties and the railroad track. I don't know how true that is, but I doubt he would have lied
Yeah, one of my professors in college who worked on it said that the view of the Capitol was a side benefit that they just tweaked a little bit. The rest had to do with existing infrastructure and making it work within those confines. I don't have a problem with the 50 MPH there. I've seen some bad wrecks there. People and loads going over the walls into oncoming traffic and such.
Now Bluebonnet extension is some BS.

Yeah, 50mph through "Corruption Curve" (what I call it) is definitely justified. There's also a left-side exit just past it. People get pissed when I drive 50mph in the left lane through the curve, but you have to get in that lane early to make that exit at Laurel, so frick 'em.

30 on Bluebonnet between Burbank and Nicholson.
This. Really only drive it when I am headed to the Lauberge and trying to avoid Gardere at night, but it is absolutely horrible.

60 on 12 is absurd. If you're not doing 70 at a minimum early in the morning, someone will run you off the road anyway.
