Workplace Misconduct - How To Proceed?

So to give some back story, I work at a large company that is definitely known to lean more liberal. Being a conservative I long ago had to learn to keep my conservative views to myself. I stuck it out during the 2016 election and after. I switched to a new department where the employees weren't as political.

With that said we had a case of workplace misconduct today. A few employees were talking about heading to a bar after work to watch the Women's World Cup game. Nothing about the conversation was political, but one of the female employees makes it political. She shouts out that she hopes the USA wins just to p*ss off Trump and his supporters.

At that point a few disagree with her and then she goes off onto AOC and how she saw the atrocities at the border. It was funny though, someone counters her by saying "Obama said the same thing years ago that Trump is saying now. Obama while he was President said children who were unaccompanied would not be allowed in but would be sent back". I was absolutely like "YES" at this comment and that someone actually had the guts to say it. The female employee of course had no response and shortly went off on another tangent.

The whole incident wasn't directed at anyone in particular and calmed down pretty quickly, but it was incredibly inappropriate. The worst thing about this is this woman is a supervisor so she needs to be setting an example for all the regular employees.

As it's a liberal company I kept my mouth shut. With that said, since it is a large company, we have a corporate HR line that is anonymous. For the first time I used that to lodge a formal complaint about the female employee. The indicated that it would take several weeks to investigate and that there would be resolution by August 1st. They gave me an incident number to reference since I was submitting the complaint anonymously.

With that said, I don't know if I trust corporate HR to actually do anything. I am considering sending an anonymous e-mail to our Area Leader as well. Giving the Area Leader a complete account of what happened and why I considered it workplace misconduct and a hostile working environment.

How should I handle this? Do you think I should send an anonymous e-mail to the Area Leader or do you think I should just leave it at leaving the complaint with corporate HR?

I have high seniority with this company and the company overall treats me well. I would be hard pressed to find a similar job in the area with the same pay and benefits. I could look at leaving the area but I don't want to do that at this point.

If you complain to HR you are part of the problem. HR will side with the liberal point of view 10/10 times.

Show that you are the bigger man and don’t get triggered by that shite. She only made herself look bad.

Launch that bad boy!!!

Tell them you’re seeking counseling and a psychiatrist as well. That’ll throw some lazy HR liberal asses into overdrive.

You’re in a liberal company and trying to report a liberal to HR (which is notoriously liberal). And now you want to out yourself as a conservative to someone that has power over you? You’re asking to get burnt man

That's my concern, that HR will just sweep it under the rug and do nothing. I feel like if I send an e-mail to the Area Leader that it would be harder for him to sweep under the rug. In the very least he would probably have to have a discussion with the female employee (nothing serious, just a don't do that again conversation) have to remind everyone to leave the political talk at the door.

Send an email from her computer to headquarters, chastising leadership, and making political threats. Bring up the children and grandchildren of the CEO and president

I reported this anonymously to HR and would send an anonymous e-mail to my Area Leader as well. I don't feel like I would be in any real danger.

If it didn’t involve you or any direct reports; stay in your lane. When/if asked for feedback, give it.

I would like to see the female employee get some sort of formal reprimand or coaching. And a refresher to the entire department that political discussion is off limits once you enter the door. A good reminder to liberals that they can't just easily get away with trashing conservatives.

I was in the room and I felt directly attacked. How can I trust this women as a supervisor if she is that easily swayed by emotion? How can I trust her to be fair to liberals and conservatives alike?

I felt like this was textbook hostile work environment.
