PORTER HEIGHTS, Texas - A Houston firefighter is dead after a woman who opened fire says that the firefighter was trying to break into her Montgomery County home.

The woman says she had no idea he was a firefighter, and says she had no idea that the man she heard trying to get inside of her front door was her next-door neighbor.

quote:

Investigators say the 64-year-old woman physically is doing alright, but emotionally she is shaken. At around 9:30 p.m. Monday, she says she heard a man fumbling around the front gate of her Porter Heights home on Youpon Lane. According to deputies, it sounded to her like he was trying to break in. She was home alone, so detectives say she grabbed her protection -- a revolver."At the time, she again told him to leave and that she was armed," said Sgt. Dan Zientek, with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

After several verbal warnings, she pulled the trigger.

"She fired twice through the door, striking the person," Sgt. Zientek said.

Pretty messed up situation. Guy had been out drinking at Baker Steet. Took a taxi home but got dropped off at the wrong place. Thought his next door neighbor's place was his and was trying to get in the front door. Old lady warned him and ended up shooting him through the door.

fricked up situation but you have to see your target before you shoot it. Shooting through a door was a bad choice.

Hate it, but shite happens when you try to gain entry to someone's home without their permission.

It's a messed up situation, but being a firefighter has no bearing here.

She didn't do anything wrong. Hell, if she'd used a shotgun it works have been exactly what VP Biden would advocate.

Yeah. I originally thought he was responding to a medical emergency and was attempting to enter the wrong house

Some drunk guy gets killed. The title made me assume he was trying to save her or some shite or he was in the very least wearing his uniform and active in his duties.

Legally youre correct, and those same laws defend innocent people in case there ever is an actual altercation where deadly force is necessary. In this case, this lady is a stupid fricking idiot and a disgrace to gun owners. I hope the law backs her up because I cant be hypocritical, but wow, what a dumbass.

No you don't. You can most certainly shoot through the door.

ETA: But I agree it is a messed up situation and she should have probably shown more judgement.. but what she did was legal

This.

And it is an unfortunate situation but the woman wasn't necessarily in the wrong.
