Yep. Read it multiple times. It's at home on my shelf, along with the others mentioned. I'd wager the best team was Gentile/Godfrey

Did Whisner see some action in Korea, too?

I think one of 7 men to be aces in both wars. Also 3 distinguished flying crosses. One of two men to achieve that.

Vermont Garrison was an ace in both wars, and flew 50plus missions in Viet Nam

According to Robin Olds' book, Garrison was never formally checked out in the F4, so his backseater had to be a qualified IP.

Wasn't Preddy killed about that same time? Shot down by US AA gunners?

I had an uncle who flew P-51s in the Air Force, and am curious about his career.
I was always trying to get info from him, but like a lot of WWII vets, he just didn't want to talk about it much.

An uncle of mine (dad's younger brother) flew a P-38 and then at the very end of WWII had switched to P-51. He had no air to air combat. His unit was 100% shooting up supply lines. The unit was always stationed forward and had just relocated right before the Battle of the Bulge. Quarters were tents with muddy floors.

The three below are great books. And all three pilots are high scoring P-51 aces: Preddy - 27 victories; Don Gentile - 26; John Godfrey: 17

Books:
George Preddy: Top Mustang Ace
Don Gentile: One Man Airforce - Memoir of a Fighter Pilot
Two Man Airforce: Don Gentile and John Godfrey: World War II Flying Aces

Thanks. I'll check them out. If your interested in reading about the P-38 pilots in the Pacific campaign check out
