i get the impression that a big part of the problem is that the jokes arent actually funny.... which makes it a lot easier for people to criticize.
good jokes make a big difference in how content is received in comedy and it sounds like these were cheap, and generally poorly constructed. though i havent seen it.

From the previews I've seen the film is offensive... not for the racism or homosexual jokes mind you, but because it looked pretty darn bad. When you look back on the 70s and 80s now it is like some magical golden age of comedy when movies were funny.

i get what you are saying, but obviously with humor it can be a fine line. with a controversial topic - if you are lazy with the joke, or its not executed well..... its quick to turn from great comedy, to simply stupid and offensive. simply declaring something comedy isnt a totally free pass.
