jefferson wrote the DofI with help from adams. his sources included the magna carta and the va bill of rights and political philosophy from locke, rousseau, and montesquieu.
what if the british had defeated the colonies....would he be considered a "founding father?" the DofI is just a piece of paper blasting george iii and claiming independence.
the guys who wrote the document this country used to be governed by (before obama) are the true founding fathers.
we agree to disagree.

The term "founding fathers" is inherently subjective. While I think that you make a valid semantical argument, U.S. Historians (Robert Ketchum, Gordon Wood, etc.) all include Thomas Jefferson in any discussion of the founding of America.

There is so much incorrect generalization in this statement. Thomas Jefferson is a founding father (a very prominent one at that.) This is fact. You will find no credible historians who will support any dispute of this fact.
