My SO certainly is, but she grew up half a mile from a BR ghetto so maybe her concern is warranted.

Because she couldn't see the perps with the lights off?

No, because she grew up in an area where crime was a big issue and a constant threat. I, on the other hand, grew up in a rural area (we didn't even start locking our doors at night until I was in middle school) where I wasn't nearly as concerned with crime as I was with random swamp monsters or wildlife attacks. I'd hear all kinds of crazy shite coming from those woods as a kid, but obviously, they don't really frighten me now.

A dog would help. I get scared if alone at night and hear something but if dogs don't go crazy I don't worry.

Wife is terrified of the dark/being alone at night when I'm not home. She can't sleep and hears noises. Off the chain paranoid and now she's rubbing off on my 9-year-old daughter. They're both a couple of major scaredy-cats. My 3-year-old is scared of nothing thankfully....attribute that to being a guy but who knows.

Nothing but a bunch of dumbass responses. Your wife's issue sounds serious and deep-seated. It's more than worth it to have her see someone professionally. I would assume some underlying problem drives this phobia/paranoia.

#1) Trade the guns for tasers. She doesn't have the temperament to use a gun wisely.

If not, can I buy some life insurance on you, good buddy???

Sounds like you're married to a fricking child. Tell her to grow up.

Mine isn't afraid at all. Probably likes it more when I work nights.

.38, 9mm and 12 gauge sleep in the room with her so it probably cuts down on fears.

The .38 sucks to shoot though. I wouldn't want to be on the other end.

Taser is a good idea since it sounds like she might shoot you one day. Dog is also another great idea. I would also throw in security cameras that she can moniter. I don't know if that will make her paranoia worse or better in the end though. I'm no therapist but she might need one.

Get a dog

This is the correct answer. Not just a noise maker either. There are plenty of breeds that make loving and loyal pets and are formidable enough to not only handle businesses but sound the part when they bark.
We have a lab/mastiff mix and a blue heeler/pit mix and if there is ever someone in our yard or driveway we know they are there and they know that we have proper dogs. With the dogs there and the shotgun in the closet my wife does pretty well.
