Trains ARE cheaper, and MOST of the inland cargo is on trains not roads. But then the last mile of cargo must be on roads, because trains don't go everywhere (thank God).

In 2013 1.6 million pounds of freight moved by rail.

Like all other government monopolies, Amtrack is slow, dangerous, inneficient unreliable, and rediculously expensive and uncompetitive.

And it's tons not pounds.

And I have a railroad spur behind my building that we use occasionally although not near like we did when I was young. I unloaded MANY boxcars as a young kid by hand.

Alot of it is shipped with trains.

If you check most trucking companies they run regional and not cross country anymore.

That is due to rail doing the longer hauls and truck traffic taking "last mile" shipments.

As was statedrail takes more tI'm and sometimes companies and people need their shite.
