Why does the gum swell after root canal?

Had one done on a molar. He put on the permanent crown yesterday. Got the needles out and dug around in the canals again before he placed it on there. Now the gum is swollen again and sore as hell. This sucks.

Never had that happen....I'd give him a call, the crown might not be sitting right

Swelling occurs when tissue is damaged.
Keep an eye on it but it's not uncommon.

What to expect after your root canal is performed?
It is normal to feel some tenderness in the area for a few days after root canal treatment.
Some patients may experience a “flare up (increased pain and /or some swelling)” after root canal treatment. This can be managed by talking to your endodontist who will instruct you on how to manage your pain and/or swelling.
Symptoms are temporary and you can often find relief from over-the-counter medication or in some cases prescription medication maybe necessary.
For a short time after your root canal treatment, your tooth may feel slightly different from your other teeth.
Care should be taken when chewing or biting on the treated tooth until you have had it permanently restored by your dentist.
Feel free to contact your endodontist at any time with questions or concerns.

On another note: why does my knee swell after surgery? Only had a knife in it for a few minutes?

It was your knee. Why you asking us how long the knife was in there?

I asked this before I had a root canal once. My dentist told me there would not be any "undue" swelling. (I had seen people after roots become very swollen.) He told me that was because their dentist had probably performed a root canal on an infected tooth and the patient should have been treated with antibiotics first. Just my experience. I had minimum swelling.

Because you touch yourself at night.
IDK maybe because they had a needle stuck in and dug around. Swelling is part of the body's healing process.

I already went through a full round of antibiotics.
He placed the cap yesterday. Feels like I have a little goose egg on the gum underneath that tooth. Ugh.
