Dunno. Fantasy football is just as nerdy as D&D.
Comedian Keith Alberstadt actually nailed it in one of his jokes:
"Fantasy football is like Dungeons and Dragons for people who used to make fun of people who played Dungeons and Dragons"

It's one thing to rip on people you view as hypocrites, but why rip on the show? I would think anyone that plays D&D would actually like the show. Most movies or TV shows that have had fire breathing dragons have either been aimed at kids or are low budget lameness. GoT has done for dragons what Jurassic Park did for dinosaurs. They are real in our minds now, not just something in our imaginations.

Its a meme on the OT for people to act like they haven't heard of something that is extremely common knowledge.
Common knowledge? Dude, seriously, what do I have to lose/gain by saying I've heard or not heard of it before? I guess if I say I've never heard of it i'll seem "cooler"?? GTFO of here...

It wasn't until I was older that I realized that it's not just all about dressing up in robes and sword-fighting in the woods. In fact that's an extreme version.
Most of the time It's just sitting around with friends at a table playing it like a board game.
I'm a huge fan of board games and the social interaction that it brings, so I would give D&D a chance.
Also if anyone has not read Ready Player One, pick up a copy. It has a D&D spin (circa 1980s), and there is a Spielberg film based on the novel coming out next year.

It's because adults put away childish things.
“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” ? C.S. Lewis

Can you play for money playing DD.

We had a mean D&D game going a few months ago hanging out on your new patio. Serious business. I like when you host and are the Dungeon Master. I rolled that 20 to kill the fire orgre with one hit left. I really should play as Landon the half elf/half human swordsman more. Good times

See, that's the thing. If its even slightly about dressing up in robes and swordfighting in the woods then there's a problem. You can't unsuck a cock.
