why do smoke detectors seem to only beep in the middle of the night?

Damn smoke detector started giving the low battery warning at 2 am loud af. Seems like they only beep in the middle of the night.

It's because the lower temperatures experienced at night cause the chemical reaction in the already depleted battery to slow down.

Temperature drops with sun going down.

Same reason a water heater never goes out during the week. It waits until your gone for the weekend when you can't buy one or find someone to instal/replace.
