Why did we go to war with the Indians and Mexicans?

Serious question, because I have driven from New Orleans and am now in Flagstaff, and haven't really seen anything worth anything since Dallas. I mean, basically from Decatur, TX to Flagstaff is dead trees, grass, dirt, and rocks. There's no water, the soil is a fricking joke, no animals or trees. What gives?
It's good to see that we haven't gotten any more stupid in the past 150 years.
FTR, do not waste your time at the Petrified Forest. It's like 30 minutes out of the way, and all you see is about 10 broken arse old logs laying on the ground in the middle of nowhere. They're not even big. I did zero research, and thought I was going to see an actual forest. Didn't happen

I saw your other thread but didn't comment, but you should've swung through Archer City, Texas (you'd have missed Wichita Falls, though), where Larry McMurtry has his bookstore, and the location of the movie The Last Picture Show, the only movie to feature two Oscar winners from both supporting role categories.

Sorry I did not see your original post a month ago.
I have traveled from Baton Rouge to the San Francisco Bay area via LA many times when I was in the military. I lived in Phoenix for 12 years.
I assume you will drive back using I-8.
If you let me know where you are going, I will give some pointers, if you want.
Your description of the scenery is accurate.
I-8 south of Tucson is beautiful, as is Sedona, AZ.
I am currently planning a trip to Vegas. Can give you my bucket list for that area if you want.

Haven't seen a single well since before Amarillo (8hrs away)
I have seen about 100 deserted towns, so this must be a productive area, right? Indians are also poor...all of them

Bingo.
We declare war against Mexico in ~ 1848. Robert E Lee and Stonewall fought there. I believe Grant was ther too. Then there was the Spanish American war.
Also Pancho Villa caused issues.

Bout 5 bills I guess. I stopped outside of Dallas, topped it off leaving Amarillo, and stopped once at some Indian place between here and there
