I think service should be voluntary, but only those who serve would be able to vote. I like the Starship Troopers model.

As I said earlier,
1. Government does not possess, I believe, the moral right to require forced labor out of anyone.
2. A conscripted force, whether for civil or military purposes, is going to be by its very nature less efficient than a volunteer or incentivized force.
3. We're already broke as frick, taking on millions of public employees each year isn't going to help.

We prefer our women to be at home making babies, caring for the young, and keeping the home fires burning.
I guarantee you that if we got into a shooting war and were losing to China, we would draft women and whatever else categories the transitional people call themselves.

If we have a selective service for men, then women should have to sign up too. But instead of getting women involved, we need to use that energy to get rid of the selective service altogether. Terrible policy.
