Can you expain to us which of humanity's needs will be met by colonizing a planet that doesn't have a functioning magnetosphere? How will we deal with the lack of shielding for solar radiation in such a way that will create a living environment that is 'meeting our needs' in a manner that can't be accomplished on Earth?

Thats not an Ethical question. Thats a practicality one. What need that would be met is the same that was met by exploring the new world 500 years ago. A base for expansion and boost of moral.

And above all, a fallback for the human species in the likely even of an eventual global catastrophe

Why didn't Science people bitch about Obama cutting NASA???

They did. You just weren't listening because Alex Jones was talking about some bullshite that made more sense to you.

What a ridiculous connection to make. Addressing climate change isn't an ethical question because it's wrong to change the environment. It's an ethical and scientific question because of the type of change that is happening. Changing the environment in a way that makes it worse is stupid (and unethical due to the problems it will cause for future generations). Changing it in a way that makes it better is smart and not ethically a problem. Terraforming Mars would only be an ethical issue if there were life there that might be harmed by the changes. As far as we know there isn't.

How is this an ethical issue? You're saying it will be hard to terraform Mars and make it habitable for us. Yes, we know that, but it has nothing to do with whether we should do it, if we can. And why would it have to be in a manner that can't be accomplished on Earth? Adding more livable space for people would be helpful, and becoming a multi-planet species would significantly reduce our risk of being wiped out by a single calamitous event.

In my opinion, it's [Life] a highly overrated phenomenon. Mars gets on perfectly without so much as a microorganism. See: there's the south pole beneath us now... No life. No life at all, but giant steps, ninety feet high, scoured by dust and wind into a constantly changing topographical map, flowing and shifting around the pole in ripples ten thousand years wide. Tell me... would it be greatly improved by an oil pipeline?

It's like socialism, I'm pretty sure they'll get it right next time.

The guy to lead the way to wealth redistribution to the masses will be the 1%er with three houses, who has paid less than 13% in taxes, has little to no charitable giving, and has been decidedly against term limits for the house and senate, as well as those members having to list all gifts received (aka bribes). "Science People" and "Bernie People" both follow whoever says what they want to hear. People with money who have luxuries and nice things are bad. Asking them to actually research findings outside of some huff post excerpts or some talking points is futile. Point out the flaws in the findings and you will be labeled something slanderous and shouted down.
