Thats not an Ethical question. Thats a practicality one. What need that would be met is the same that was met by exploring the new world 500 years ago. A base for expansion and boost of moral.
And above all, a fallback for the human species in the likely even of an eventual global catastrophe

What a ridiculous connection to make. Addressing climate change isn't an ethical question because it's wrong to change the environment. It's an ethical and scientific question because of the type of change that is happening. Changing the environment in a way that makes it worse is stupid (and unethical due to the problems it will cause for future generations). Changing it in a way that makes it better is smart and not ethically a problem. Terraforming Mars would only be an ethical issue if there were life there that might be harmed by the changes. As far as we know there isn't.

How is this an ethical issue? You're saying it will be hard to terraform Mars and make it habitable for us. Yes, we know that, but it has nothing to do with whether we should do it, if we can. And why would it have to be in a manner that can't be accomplished on Earth? Adding more livable space for people would be helpful, and becoming a multi-planet species would significantly reduce our risk of being wiped out by a single calamitous event.

Asking them to actually research findings outside of some huff post excerpts or some talking points is futile. Point out the flaws in the findings and you will be labeled something slanderous and shouted down.
