Lakeview has lots everywhere. New construction...
so you're argument is that like 2% of the new homes built in LA are not boring, so this topic is not valid?

I have been seeing the trend of buying older homes then leveling them just for the lot.
Have a friend that did that, worked out great for him because he bought house pre Katrina, so prices were down. If you buy now and do that...that is one expensive piece of property.

Is that area not a part of LA? A blanket statement about all LA house is ridiculous.

I have seen a couple homes that were leveled in bocage and rebuilt. I like the location and lots but can't drop that cash.

Probably 70% of the homes built along the Diversion Canal are custom plans, lots of variation. Many use the south Louisiana French style but changed up to account for waterfront living...

it is a very small percentage of LA
the topic is valid in that the vast majority of new homes being built in LA, and everywhere really, are these cheap and fast track homes

That's happening in most big cities, lots are worth more without the 100 year old house on them.

A good location in Matairie is 150k and up, Lakeview is the same now. Small lot and very few to choose from.

Murdock has a point. Only 98% are boring. It's not 100%.
Damnit man, get it right.

100 Oaks in Baton Rouge has lots of large remodels and home demos and custom rebuilds...

And a very desirable area too.

ok everyone, let's list every neighborhood in the state with custom new builds!
I'm sure all of these neighborhoods are in the $200k range too

This is another problem with the idea "Everyone has cookie cutter houses and theyre dumb for it!"
Not everyone can afford to build a house that is $145/sqft. Im sure that everyone has in mind the house theyd love to build, but not everyone can have exactly what they want.
Posted on 3/11/14 at 8:05 am to FootballNostradamus
because that's how DR Horton builds them: cheap, spec, crummy, and all of the same.
If you want to live in a new neighborhood, that's your only choice.

I'd say the problem isn't with individual new construction homes, but with the sprawling planned neighborhoods with the houses stacked one on top of the other. Zero character with all of the homes looking alike.

bungalow
I like this style alot
Bungalows, if done correctly, are the best style houses on the market IMO. They are the perfect blend of comfort and openness. I want my house to look small from the outside but feel open from the inside.
The LA homes just don't feel comfortable to me.

The Heights is in no way a suburb. As stated before, this is a suburb issue, not a Louisiana one.
Eh, my brother is looking in Woodchase and Kennilworth (spelling?), he's not exactly going out to Denham Spring.
I'd call Woodchase equivalent to BR as the Heights is to Houston.

I think it's the type of homes and styles being built that is what people are talking about more than just what you can afford or getting on anyone here.

all about the $. the houses being built nowadays are much cheaper if based off a basic/similar construction plan
