I have no problem with it, in face, hate rats.

I just want to know if they are selected due to cost, availability, similar body reactions to humans for medicine, combination of above?

Breed quickly, cheaply, profusely, transportable, no one cares about dead rats.

all of the above and also there are special breeds of them where they are basically all clones and you can get much better baselines in studies and not have to account for genetic diversity and whatnot.

there's no scientific basis for it

research scientists are notoriously corny and mice are just easy to name things like Julius Cheeser, etc.

Rats and mice live off of the waste of humans, effects of our food and environment affect them similarly.

New program in place mice no longer being used. New plan is to use attorneys!!! Several advantages
1 some many of them
2 lab techs don’t get attached
3. Some things a rat just won’t do

No charge????????

Mice aren't the only ones, considering the current state of the mRNA vaccines.

Quick lifecycle and reproduce like mother frickers.

You can track several generations in a relatively short timeframe compared to other warm blooded mammals.

No Slag!! Say it isn't so. Say that it is because they decoded the mouse genome a long time ago, so experiments, and jean manipulation is easy.

How do they find those little Levi's?

Rats are used for comparative medicine research because their genetic, biological and behavioral characteristics have some resemblance to humans. There is controversy as to whether the Sprague Dawley or the Hannover Wistar Rat is the most appropriate model for toxicity studies.

Mice are often a first choice because of their size and low costs to maintain (along with the availability for genomic manipulation since the 80s)...but there are a lot of areas where Rats are preferred. Larger sized rats are better models for cardiovascular research, and because they are more social than mice, rats are more commonly used in behavioral studies.
