Why is this so difficult to understand?

He understands it just fine. He is just arguing because that is what he likes to do.

Those are absolutely the choices in this case.

You can even pick which side you think is promoting lies.
I choose not to give a frick about either of them and continue on with my multiple playlists

You're inventing meaning to words to sit here and keep arguing.
Your claim is that I am inventing the definition of "cancel culture"?

Not sure why you're laughing, probably because you're a dumbass.

That wasn't the point, though the way the word is thrown around these days it's just any time people decide to stop liking something.

The point was that you are not choosing "freedom of speech", you are choosing the particular speech that you agree with. And that's fine, just don't act like you're taking a stand in the name of freedom.

An "artist" doesn't get to choose who consumes their "art". Their "freedom of speech" isn't in play here. What an idiotic comparison.

Well I know why you're just insulting me instead of actually making a point. It's because you know what "cancel culture" means, and you know that fans dropping support for someone for sociopolitical reasons is exactly that.

I already made the point, and you continue to run with your bastardized definition of a term to keep arguing.

Nope.

your bastardized definition of a term
Wiki:
quote:

Cancel culture or call-out culture is a modern form of ostracism in which someone is thrust out of social or professional circles – whether it be online, on social media, or in person. Those subject to this ostracism are said to have been "cancelled"
quote:

The notion of cancel culture is a variant on the term call-out culture and constitutes a form of boycotting or shunning involving an individual (often a celebrity) who is deemed to have acted or spoken in an unacceptable manner
quote:

Some public figures claim to have been "cancelled" while continuing their careers as before
Cambridge Dictionary:
quote:

a way of behaving in a society or group, especially on social media, in which it is common to completely reject and stop supporting someone because they have said or done something that offends you
Dictionary.com:
quote:

Cancel culture refers to the popular practice of withdrawing support for (canceling) public figures and companies after they have done or said something considered objectionable or offensive. Cancel culture is generally discussed as being performed on social media in the form of group shaming

Just so you know that you aren't arguing against me, but rather against the commonly accepted definition of the term. I agree that it has been bastardized, but I didn't do it.

This thread calling out musicians pulling out of Spotify fits the definition exactly. My only question is what is your threshold for the number of participants for it to "count"?
