Andre was a global attraction long before he signed with WWE. Sports Illustrated ran an article in him in the early-80s that called him the most recognizable athlete in the world along with Muhammad Ali. When he was young he could really move. His mid/late-80s WWE run was an embarrassment-- he could barely move at that point.
