Looking to go sometime after labor day. Is it as nice as most reviews say or just expensively over hyped? Have some really nice looking lake front houses available to rent but some are insanely priced. Trying to decide if it's worth the drive from BR with boat to go over there or not.

It's nice. You can find some good places on airbnb. Check out some of the springs around austin too. especially barton springs.

If you don't want to bring your boat, then you can rent one from these folks:

Here's the deal with Lake Travis right now...

The lake is finally back to a point where pretty much all ramps are open and a large part of the lake can be used now, so that means that all those people that have not been able to get on it over the last few years are crushing it now.

Also, the lake basically filled up over a one-month period thanks to heavy storms that forced a lot of debris into the lake, so if you're not familiar with the lake, then that could be problematic for you.

Also, also, along the lines mentioned above, there was a lot of growth in spots where there had been no water for a while so, again, if you're not familiar with those spots, then that could be problematic for you.

It all depends on what you're wanting to do. If you're just wanting a good lake in Central Texas to relax on and enjoy a small town with some decent spots to eat and shop, then I'd suggest Marble Falls. If you're looking for more of a party atmosphere, then head to Lake Travis and find Devil's Cove.

I think it's nice but it just depends on what part of the lake you stay on .

been out there many times just for the day to swim and hang out at Oasis. Not sure I'd want to spend a whole weekend out there. Staying in Austin would be more entertaining.

Perdinalos River State Park and Lake Travis were really great the last time I was there, but that was in 1974.
