Who else has received letters from a tow co saying they have a car you sold in their yard?

I traded in a 2003 Tahoe two years ago in Texas. I received a letter from Road Runner towing yesterday telling me to come pick up my car. It's currently in the BRPD lot.
It now has Texas plates, so someone obviously bought it. Is this just a shotgun approach to send letters to all previous owners in hopes of someone coming to pick it up?
This is the second time I perceive letters for cars I previously owned that have been towed.

You sell your cars to some low class people apparently

If it wasn't registered in LA you may be the last person it was registered to. Tow companies have to let owners know, by law, that they can apply for the title (keep the car) in lieu of payment after it is on the lot for X amount of time.
That may be it. Or towers gonna tow.

Then you are the last registered LA owner and that is why they are contacting you, most likely dont have access to TX database.
I have had it happen before myself, once was many years later, it had been registered out of state but not in MS so they reverted back to me over a decade later, other time was a motorcycle that someone wrecked and left at the scene a few years after I sold it.
I later found out the state keeps all vehicles "in your name" unless they are re-registered instate, you must request they be removed.

I got a ticket in the mail that my car was impounded in Mexico
TLDR version:
Got rear-ended,
Traded car back to same dealership for $,
They sold car,
& Ended up in Mexico

Your TLDR is longer than your original message... what are you doing?

Just go get it and sell it again?

I sold my first car for $400 cash. A couple of years later i got a call saying it had been picked up of the curb and if I wanted to get it from the yard I could pay some small amount and get it. I told them to just keep it. I assume the guy I sold it to never got it switched over.

a client sold a car and the buyer never transferred title. ended up impounded in new orleans and the impound yard told my client to go get a duplicate title and come pick up his car.
in the process of obtaining the duplicate title, he swore under oath that the car was his. he was arrested for "injuring public records" which is a felony.
