Soft geeky anti social but makes good grades and is polite.

Hard disrespectful athletic but who sneaks out of his window at night and dabbles in sex pot and alcohol.

Seems like the first type gets all the ridicule but they're likely to be more well adjusted as an adult.

I would rather my son hit his peak in his 20s and not when he's 15. The last reunion I went to.. 20year.. It was amazing that most of the so called geeks have successful careers and many of the popular kids ended up doing very little with their lives.

I know.. CSB and :youreAFatty:

What kid will be the happiest, most well-adjusted adult?

Humans spend a relatively small percentage of their usual life spans lives being adolescents or children. Keeping the big picture in view is important. Why worry about whether a kid is a nerd or popular, you won't change them.

PS: yada, yada, yada, insert usual OT ad hominem insults here.

making good grades and being polite, you can work with that and teach social skills

Between the two choices, I take: "Soft geeky anti social but makes good grades and is polite".

No one should rather have a disrespectful kid, regardless of their social status or athletic prowess. My boys know they have two responses to questions from adults - yes sir/ma'am, or no sir/ma'am.

The goal as a parent should be to raise a well rounded child that is confident in themselves, knows they have the love and support of their family, and uses his/her talents to serve others in some way to make a difference.

And what's wrong with this? Sounds like most teenagers, even without the athletic part. Geeky nerds can party and have sex too.

Hard to give an objective opinion here since I am a parent. Total honesty, I wouldn't trade my two out for any others. Before I had kids, I guess I would've said the first option maybe, but that answer would've been wrong.

It's part the kid, mostly the parent.

Some kids don't require as highly a skilled parent as others.

There's no simple answer really.

Caring deeply about the winkledness of dress shirts is an important trait to develop in men children too.

It can serve to get them out of some sticky situations.

Just the opposite for me, the popular people are still popular and most have great careers

Mostly due to networking and likability which are more important than intelligence IMO

The very smart anti social crowd is doing well to but it's in anti social jobs like it

My son is going to make straight A's, date the prom queen, graduate 1st in his class, get a scholarship to the Naval Acadamy to play baseball, become a fighter pilot, marry a OT 9 heart surgeon, then fly the first manned mission to Mars.
